SPARTA, NJ – Sparta Police Department is joining with other Sussex County Police Departments in participating in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday. 

The national initiative is sponsored by the U. S. Drug Enforcement Agency to be part of the solution in reducing the misuse of prescription drugs, according to an announcement about the initiative.

The Center for Prevention distributed a list of Sussex County Police Departments that have permanent prescription disposal boxes available all day, every day.  They include:

  • Andover,
  • Augusta,
  • Byram,
  • Franklin,
  • Hamburg,
  • Hardyston,
  • Hopatcong,
  • Newton,
  • Ogdensburg,
  • Sparta and
  • Vernon.

The Byram ShopRite and Byram CVS will also be disposal locations on Saturday, October 26 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Expired or unwanted prescriptions or over-the-counter medications.  They could be drugs that did not work for you, a family member or pet. 

Another source of prescription medications in homes is from a deceased family member.  Even unknown tables and capsules can be brought to the police department disposal sites.
