It’s apple season in New Jersey, and with it comes fresh apple cider.

We asked Grain & Cane Bar & Table in Berkeley Heights to share a couple of their favorite apple cider cocktail recipes. These are perfect for sipping as we slide past the dog days of summer and into the fall.

“This one is our new featured cocktail,” said Margareth Salas of Grain & Cane. “Old fashioneds are one of our most-selling drinks. This twist on an all-time classic will appeal to those who don’t normally drink old fashioneds but love fresh apple cider.”

2 oz. Bourbon whiskey

1 oz. apple cider

3 dashes aromatic bitters

Cinnamon stick and freeze-dried apple wheel, for garnish

Combine first three ingredients. Garnish and serve over ice, preferably one large cube.

Cider Mule

“This was on our menu last year and it’s back due to popular demand,” Salas said. “It was one of our most-selling seasonal cocktails. It had that fall apple taste with a hint of summer.”

2 oz. vodka

1.5 oz. apple cider

.75 oz. lemon juice

Splash of ginger beer

Cinnamon stick, apple wheel and lemon wedge, for garnish

Combine vodka, cider and lemon juice. Top with a splash of ginger beer. Garnish with cinnamon stick, apple wheel and lemon wedge, if desired.
