SPARTA, NJ – A Franklin man has been charged with driving while intoxicated after being stopped for speeding on Main Street. On September 7 around 11:30 p.m. Sparta Police Officer Erick Finley was driving behind Paul Squier as he accelerated to nearly 60 mph in a 45 mph zone police report.
When Finely spoke with Squier the officer suspected the57-year-old was intoxicated. Finley asked Squier if he had been drinking and Squire said he “had a few beers after work,” according to police.
Sparta Police Officer Lynott arrived to provide assistance as Squier was asked to perform field sobriety tests. Squire was taken into custody and brought to Sparta Police Department Headquarters for processing and breath testing.
Squire was charged with speeding, DWI and careless driving. He was released with a court date to a responsible adult.
