SPARTA, NJ – A Byram man has been charged with stealing equipment from the Lake Mohawk Golf Course.  On May 10 Sparta police were called to the golf club when it was discovered several chainsaws and backpack blowers, valued at $4,700 had been taken from the maintenance garage, police said.

The Sparta Detectives Bureau arrested Steven Kristiansen, 51, after investigating the burglary, police said. 

Kristiansen was charged with burglary, criminal mischief, theft of movable property, violation of Executive Order 107, contempt, and escape, police said.

Kristiansen had been released from Morris County Correctional Facility on April 8, 2020 and placed on house arrest, police said.  After the incident with the golf club, Kristiansen was returned to the Morris County Correctional Facility on May 22, 2020, police said.

The Sparta Police Department was assisted by Detectives from the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office, the New Jersey State Police and the Byram Township Police Department.
