SPARTA, NJ – A woman talking on her cell phone while driving caught the attention of Sparta Cpl. Marc Rubino on September 7 around 9 a.m. When Rubino spoke the driver Megan Gorrell about what he had seen, the officer smelled burnt marijuana in the car, police report.
The 24-year-old Flanders resident said she has smoked marijuana earlier at a friend’s house. With the assistance of Sparta Cpl. Schomp and Police Officer Schomp Gorrell’s car was searched. The officers found a ziplock bag of cocaine, a multi-colored marijuana pipe and marijuana grinder and a glass jar containing marijuana, police report.
Gorrell was taken into custody and transported to the Sparta Police Department headquarters for processing. Gorrell was charged with cellphone use in a moving vehicle, controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released with a court date.
