SPARTA, NJ – Sparta Police Detectives have solved a burglary that took place on July 13, 2017 with an Elmwood Park man now facing charges.  Police say Sparta homeowners came back from vacation to find their bedrooms had been ransacked and jewelry was missing.

Sparta Detective Hassloch’s investigation led him to a Cash-For-Gold shop in Clifton had some of the stolen jewelry.  They found Joseph Mauriello, 30, had sold then stolen items, police report. 

On September 11 Hassloch found that Mauriello was in the Morris County Correctional Facility on charges relating to a burglary in Harding, according to police.

Mauriello was charged with burglary and theft of moveable property.  He was moved to Passaic County jail, service with the criminal complaints and told of his court date.
