SPARTA, NJ – A man speeding on Route 15 faces drug charges despite having a medical marijuana card.  Muhammad Khan, 26, of Valley Stream, New York was stopped by Police Officer Erick Finley driving his red Lexus SUV 75 mph in a 55 mph zone, police report.

When the officer spoke with the driver and passenger Abubaker Masood, 29 of West Islip, New York, the officer smelled raw marijuana.  Sgt. Schomp, Police Officer Lynott assisted as the car was searched.  Khan told the officers Masood had a medical marijuana card.  The card shown to the officer was valid only for cannabis oil, police report.

The officers found two vials of cannabis oil, a rubber container with brownish marijuana wax, a large marijuana bong, a small glass pipe, a silver marijuana grinder and four vacuum sealed bags each containing 16 grams of marijuana, police report.

Masood claimed ownership of the contraband.  He was taken into custody and brought to Sparta Police Department headquarters.  Kahn was charged with speeding, controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle and failure to produce a valid insurance card.  He was given a court date and released.

Masood was charged with possession of over 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.  He was given a court date and released.
