SPARTA, NJ – A Newton man faces drunk driving charges after hitting a car in a parking lot and trying to leave the scene. On January 4 around 8:32 p.m. Officer Taylor May went to the Mohawk House after the accident was reported to police, according to police.
May found 25 year old Eric Albanese had hit another car with his 2016 Mercedes Benz when pulling out of a parking space. Parking attendants stopped him as Albanese tried to flee, police said.
When May spoke with Albanese the officer suspected the driver was drunk. May had Albanese perform field sobriety tests and took him into custody, police said.
Albanese was taken to Sparta Police Department Headquarters for processing and breath testing. He was charged with DWI and careless driving. He was released with a court date several hours later to a sober adult.
