SPARTA, NJ – Police called to the area of West Shore Trail and Rocky Terrace found an overturned blue BMW in the woods.  On September 4 around 9:30 p.m. at the scene were told the driver had taken off on foot down West Shore Trail toward White Deer Plaza, police said.

Officer Chris Favaro found Christopher Curran, 24 who said he fled because people at the scent told him to run.  Favaro determined Curran had been drinking and brought him to the Sparta Police Department headquarters, police said.

Field sobriety tests and breath testing was done at the Sparta Police Department Headquarters, after which he was charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving, failure to keep right, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident and failure to produce documents, police said.

He was released with a court date.
