SPARTA, NJ – A ShopRite customer helped Sparta Police catch a shoplifter on November 11. Around 12:30 p.m.  a woman told officers who were collecting food for Cram the Cruiser she had seen a man take items from underneath his clothes, put them under a parked car and go back into the store, police said.

The officers picked up the items from under the car and found Wantage resident William Lasala, 40 in the store with more stuff in his coat, police said.

Officers who were on duty were called to the scene and arrested Lasala for shoplifting.  He was brought to Sparta Police Department Headquarters for processing.  He was given a court date and released.
