SPARTA, NJ – A Sparta man found sleeping in his car in the road with the motor running is facing driving while intoxicated charges.  On July 15 around 12:30 a.m. Cpl. Dan Elig was checking on a silver Toyota that was partially in the road, police report.

Elig found the car was still in drive with Justin Leuzarder, 36 asleep behind the wheel.  The officer asked Leuzarder to shift the car into park.  While Elig was speaking with Leuzarder he smelled alcohol in the car, police report.

Leuzarder was given field sobriety tests and taken into custody.  He was brought to Sparta Police Department headquarters where he was processed, police said.

Leuzarder was charged with DWI, obstructing passage of other vehicles, failure to produce license or registration, open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, unclear plates and careless driving.  Leuzarder was give a court date and released to a sober adult.
