SPARTA, NJ –  A Sparta man found behind the wheel on the front lawn of a home on Richmond Hill Drive is facing drunk driving charges.  On December 15 around 1 a.m. Officer Brian Porter went to the residence to find Shaun Tatka, 24 in a blue Chevrolet Colbalt about 100 feet off the road, police said.

Tatka had hit a utility box and a mail box before stopping.  Porter had Tatka shut the car off and get out of the car.  The officer gave Tatka field sobriety tests and took him into custody, police said.

Tatka was taken to Sparta Police Department headquarters for processing.  After breath testing Tatka was charged with DWI, consumption in a motor vehicle, open container in a motor vehicle, careless driving, failure to inspect and failure to keep right, police said.

Tatka was given a court date and released to a sober adult.
