SPARTA, NJ -Two people in a car stopped for speeding 76 MPH in a 55 MPH zone on Route 15 ended up under arrest on several charges on February 1, around 2 p.m. Sparta Police Officer Thomas Snyder stopped the silver Chevy Cruise driven by Dalila DePaula 22 of Ogdensburg, police say.
Ronald Artis, 24 of Rahway was a passenger in the car. When speaking with the duo, the officer smelled marijuana. Sgt. Carbery and Cpl. Rubino provided assistance at the scene. DePaula told the officers that friends had smoked in her car earlier but that there was not any pot in the car, police report.
The officers found a glass marijuana pipe with marijuana residue and two open bottles of mango and peach vodka. Artis said the pipe was his, according to police.
Artis was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. DePaula was charged with speeding, failure to produce insurance card, possession of open containers in a motor vehicle. Both were released with a court date.
