SPARTA, NJ – A pair of Newark residents face charges after a speeding stop on Route 15.  On February 2 around 11:15 p.m. Officer Porter saw Carter Booth, 21 in a grey Toyota Camery, going 74 MPH in a 55 MPH zone, police said.

When Porter spoke with the driver, the officer smelled marijuana in the car.  Booth told Porter a friend who smokes pot had borrowed the car recently, police said.

The car was searched and Porter found marijuana.  Booth admitted it was his, police said.

Porter found the 35-year-old passenger Dominique Jean-Pierre had a warrant out of Newark.  Both people were taken into custody and brought to Sparta Police Department headquarters, police said.

Booth was charged with possession of marijuana, controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, failure to keep right and throwing debris from a motor vehicle. He was given a court date and released.

Newark Court was contacted and they issued a new court date.  She was given the new date and released.
