SPARTA, NJ – A Hillside man stopped for speeding on Route 15 was picked up on an outstanding warrant. On April 10 around 9:40 a.m. Officer Brian Porter stopped Luis Prieto-Melgarejo, 31, for going 71 MPH in a 55 MPH zone, police report.
When Porter checked on Prieto-Melgarejo’s credentials the officer found the driver’s license had been suspended because of a warrant out of Elizabeth and one out of Jersey City, police report.
Prieto-Melgarejo was taken into custody and brought to Sparta Police Department Headquarters for processing. He was charged with driving while suspended, speeding, failing to keep right on a highway, obstructed view and tinted license plate cover, police said.
Prieto-Melgarjo was given new court dates for his warrants and one from Sparta and then released.
