SPARTA, NJ – A Newton man is facing drunk driving charges after being stopped for speeding on Woodport Road.  On February 16 around 2 a.m. Officer Michael Poon stopped Tyler Wehreberg  for driving 61 MPH in a 45 MPH zone, police said.

When Poon spoke with the 22-year-old the officer smelled alcohol and saw multiple open beers in the car.  Wehreberg told Poon he had one beer, then said he had three beers, police report.

Poon gave Wehrenberg field sobriety test and then took him into custody.  Wehrenberg was taken to Sparta Police Department Headquarters for processing and breath testing, police said.

Wehrenberg was charged with DWI, careless driving, open container in a motor vehicle and speeding.  He was given a court date and released to a sober adult.
