SPARTA, NJ — A Sparta man is facing drug charges after being stopped for speeding on West Mountain Road. Police Officers Thomas Snyder and Jonathan Poon stopped Matthew Freeman in his black Toyota Corolla for going 47 MPH in a 30 MPH zone, police said.

When the officers spoke with the Freeman he smelled marijuana in the car. When the officers searched the car they found marijuana, drug paraphernalia, alcoholic beverages and a fake I. D. showing Freeman’s age as 23, police report.

Freeman was taken into custody and brought to the Sparta Police Department Headquarters for processing. He was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of alcohol by a minor, possession of a fraudulent license, speeding, unclear plate and possession of controlled dangerous substance in motor vehicle. 

Freeman was released with a court date in Superior Court.
