SPARTA, NJ –Passengers in a car stopped for going 80 MPH in a 55 MPH zone on Route 15 north are facing drug charges. On August 31 around 11:45 a.m. Officer Taylor May stopped Kayla Clark-Nesbitt, 21 in a silver Honda for speeding, police said.
When the officer spoke with the Orange resident he smelled marijuana in the car. Clark-Nesbitt admitted she and her passengers had smoked pot earlier, police said.
A search of the car turned up marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Passengers Jason Walker, 21 and Najee Wilson, 22 claimed the drugs and paraphernalia were theirs, police said.
The two Newark residents were taken into custody and transported to Sparta Police Department Headquarters for processing, police said.
Clark-Nesbitt was ticketed for speeding and maintenance of lamps and released.
Walker and Wilson were charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. They were released with court dates.
