SPARTA, NJ – A Newton man caught the attention of Sparta Cpl Rubino when he drove passed him on West Shore Trail with a broken license plate light. Alexis Obolensky was stopped in his gold Subaru on February 15 around 7:45 p.m., police report.
When the officer was stopping the 28-year-old driver he saw him flick a cigarette out the window. As Rubino spoke with him he smelled alcohol. The front seat passenger said he had too much to drink, police report.
Police Officer Lippencott and Police Officer Porter assisted as Rubino asked Obolensky to get out of the car and perform field sobriety tests. Obolensky was then taken into custody and brought to Sparta Police Department headquarters for breath testing and processing, police say.
Obolensky was charged with unclear plates, maintenance of lamps, throwing debris from a motor vehicle and driving while intoxicated. He was given a court date and released to a sober adult.
