SPARTA, NJ –  A Succasunna man with a suspended drivers license was stopped after Officer Brian Porter saw him weaving and driving slowly on Route 15 north.  On July 26 around 2:30 a.m. Richard Thomson, 57 was driving his black Chevrolet Tahoe 44 MPH in a 55MPH zone, police report.

When Porter spoke with Thomson the officer saw a half consumed bottle of beer on the passenger seat.  Thomson admitted to having been drinking, police said.

After performing field sobriety tests, Thomson was taken into custody and brought to Sparta Police Department headquarters for breath testing and processing.  Thomson was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while suspended, failure to maintain lane, open container in a motor vehicle and consumption of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle.  He was also charged criminally for driving with a suspended license due to a prior DWI, police said.

Thomson was given a court date and transported to Keogh Dwyer Correctional Facility where he was turned over to jail personnel without further incident to await his court appearance.
