SPARTA, NJ – Three men were arrested after being stopped for driving 80 mph on Route 15 north on September 12 around 10:30 p.m. Sparta Police Officer Thomas Snyder stopped Juan Loenardo for exceeding the 55 mph speed limit and smelled marijuana when the officer spoke with the driver, police report.
There were three other passengers in the car with the 22-year-old from Toms River. Sparta Sgt. Carbery and Cpl. Fraser arrive to assist. They searched the car and found a small jar of marijuana, rolling papers, a plastic pill bottle containing marijuana and a wooden dugout containing a glass pipe, police report.
Leonardo claimed the glass jar and rollng papers were his. A passenger in the back seat, Teudis Rivera, 34, of Edison, claimed ownership of the pill bottle and glass pipe. Leonardo and Rivera were both taken into custody, police report.
A third passenger, 28-year-old Anthony Garcia of Passaic, was also taking into custody on an outstanding warrant from the Bergan County Sheriff’s Office. All three men were brought to Sparta Police Department headquarters for processing.
Leonardo was charged with speeding, controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, obstructed view, unclear plates, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Rivera was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Garcia was turned over to the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office on their warrant.
