SPARTA, NJ – A New York man was pulled over on Route 15 north for tailgating. On September 4 around 7:15 p.m.  Officer Erick Finley stopped a red Honda Civic driven by Hakeem Bokhari, police said.

When Finley spoke with Bokhari the officer smelled marijuana in the car.  Bokhari admitted his passenger Naeem Semerkant, 22 also of New York, had marijuana, police said.

Semerkant admitted to Finley that he had pot in his backpack for their camping trip.  A search of the backpack turned up a ziplock bag of marijuana, a bong and smoking pipes, police said.

Semerkant was taken to Sparta Police Department Headquarters for processing.  He was charged with Possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.  He was released with a court date.

Bokhari was ticketed for possession of controlled dangerous substance and following too closely, police said.
