SPARTA, NJ- A woman from Elizabeth is facing drug charges after a traffic stop.  On December 21 around 11:30 a.m. Officer Brian Porter stopped Alberto Perez in a gray Honda Accord, police said.

When Porter spoke with Perez the officer smelled marijuana.  Perez told Porter he did not smoke pot but that it had been smoked in his car recently. Perez said the front seat passenger Jennifer Lozano smoked marijuana, but there was not any pot in the car, police said.

Lozano admitted she had smoked marijuana on the ride up but did not have any on her, police said.

The officer found marijuana when Lozano and the car were searched.  She was taken into custody and brought to the Sparta Police Department Headquarters for processing, police said.

Perez was ticketed for tinted windows and maintenance of lamps.

Lozano was charged with possession of marijuana.  She was given a court date and released.
