SPARTA, NJ – A Vernon man is facing drug charges after being stopped for erratic driving.  ON September 29 around 11:50 p.m. Sparta Cpl. Joseph Antonello stopped Brian Deritter, 23 for failing to stay in his lane on Route 15, police say.

Sparta Cpl. Schomp and Police Officer Guido arrived to assist as Antonello spoke with Deritter.  Antonello smelled marijuana in the car.  Deritter initially denied having pot, police say.

When the officers searched Deritter’s car they found a metal grinder, a multi-colored marijuana pipe and a glass jar containing less than 50 grams of marijuana, police report.

Deritter was taken into custody and brought to Sparta Police Department headquarters.  He was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to maintain lane, maintenance of lamps and having a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.

Deritter was released with a court date.
