SPARTA, NJ – Sparta Township has again been recognized as one of the safest cities in America. SafeWise listed Sparta as #18 on the list with low reported crime rates. The Sparta Police Chief attributes the high ranking in part to community relations and "a commitment to professionalism."
“Sparta police officers continue to remain committed to our obligation and our oath to ‘Protect and Serve’ this township,” Sparta Police Chief Neil Spidaletto said.
The report noted violent crime in Sparta stands at 0.3 per 1,000 residents and property crimes occurred at 2.9 per 1,000 residents. Sparta is reported to have a median income of $126,090 with a population of 18,694

The report says New Jersey dominates the top 100 Safest City list again for the second consecutive year, with 25. Massachusetts has 15, Pennsylvania has 12 and New York is represented by 10. The media income for the top 100 safest cities is $102,080.
Safewise used FBI crime report statistics and US Census population data, evaluating towns with population of at least 15,000. Violent crime includes aggravated assault, murder, rape and robbery. Property crimes include burglary, larceny- theft and motor vehicle theft.
