Sparta High School Girls Basketball Prepare for New Season

SPARTA, NJ – The girls high school basketball team has started its winter season, the sixth under the leadership of head coach Catherine Willie.  This year the team will be relying on key returning players Paige Smith, Erin Walsh, Erin Scott, Tatiana Esteva-Ingram, Emily Dilger and Brianna Falco according to Willie.

SPARTA, NJ – The seventh grade Sparta Spartan Youth Football team is 2-0 in their quest to play at the National Football League Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.  Keansburg was their latest conquest as the Spartans crushed them 30-0 on Saturday afternoon.

UNION, NJ – The Braves made history on Friday night on the campus of Kean University winning the NJSIAA North 1 Group 2 championship, the first in the one hundred year history of the Newton High School football program according to the jubilant players and coaches.  The Braves brought home the trophy defeating Lakeland 28-14.

Sparta Jefferson United Ice Hockey Starts Season with Win Over Kinnelon

STOCKHOLM, NJ – The Sparta Jefferson United high school ice hockey team began their second season with a win, kicking Kinnelon 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at Skylands Ice World.

The SJU team dominated with more than four times as many shots on goal.  The Colts goalie had a very busy outing with 47 saves.  SJU goalie Logan Hanek stopped 16 Kinnelon shots.

Steroid testing of NJ scholastic athletes during 2016-2017 yields one positive result

ROBBINSVILLE, NJ – The results are in for NJSIAA’s 2016-17 random steroid testing program for New Jersey’s scholastic athletes. Of the 502 male and female student-athletes tested, one was found to be positive for any of 80 banned substances, including anabolic steroids.
