Undefeated Sparta High School Golf Wins H/W/S and NJSIAA North 1 Group 2, Second at Tournament of Champions

SPARTA, NJ – Sparta High School golf team is on a roll.  They have maintained an undefeated record through their season.  They won the NJSIAA North 1 Group 2 Sectionals and the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex tournament.

This Sparta team is the first Sussex County team to win the tri-county tournament, according to Coach Gerry Carter.

SPARTA, NJ – Sparta High School softball shut out Pope John on Saturday 9-0 on the Lion’s turf.  Pitcher Paige Smith earned another shutout in the one-hitter, making this number nine for the senior.

Smith had 11 strikeouts allowing only one walk.  She also went 3-for-3 scoring each time.

Sparta High School Softball Moves to NJSIAA North 1 Group 3 Finals After Defeating Montville

SPARTA, NJ- Sparta High School softball in going to the NJSIAA finals after beating six seed Montville on Friday 3-0.  It was another shutout for Paige Smith, making this the eighth shutout for Smith this season.

Second seed Sparta’s bat were hot with 12 hits but Montville’s defense was tough, allowing only three to cross the plate.

Sparta Softball Moves to NJSIAA North Seciton 1 Group 3 Semis After Demarest Defeat

SPARTA, NJ – Sparta High School softball got by Demarest 3-1, in the NJSIAA tournament quarterfinal game on Wednesday.  Playing at home the girls built on their winning record moving to 17-6.

Sparta Girls Lacrosse Gets to NJSIAA North 1, Group 2 Finals Beating Lakeland and Ramapo

WANAQUE, NJ – Sparta High School girls lacrosse has moved easily through the first two rounds of the NJSIAA North Section 1 Group 2 tournament, beating Lakeland 13-6 and Ramapo 21-8.

Sparta High School Softball Crushes Garfield in NJSIAA Section 1 Group 3 First Round

SPARTA, NJ – Sparta High School girls softball had an early finish in the first round of the NJSIAA North Section 1 Group 3 tournament early defeating Garfield 10-0 in the fifth inning. 

Paige Smith worked both sides of the plate to contribute to the win. Smith pitched a no hitter, five inning shut-out and went 3-for-3, scoring twice with two RBIs.

Sparta High School Boys Lacrosse Beats Jefferson in NJSIAA North Jersey Group 2 Quarterfinals

SPARTA, NJ – Sparta High School boys lacrosse moves to the semifinal round of the NJSIAA North Group 2 tournament after taking down Jefferson 10-4 on Saturday.  Playing at home Sparta’s coach Tyler Meth said possession was a key factor in the win.

Sparta Baseball Drops One to Pope John

SPARTA, NJ – Sparta High School baseball lost to Pope John 3-1 on Friday.  The game was a 0-0 tie into the seventh.

Matt Sigillo was the only Spartan to cross the plate with a solo homerun in the bottom of the seventh.

Sigillo’s homer came after Pope John’s Kevin Putsky hit a three run home run at the top of the seventh.

SPARTA, NJ – Sparta High School boys lacrosse dominated Lakeland 22-2 in the first round of the NJSIAA Group 2 tournament game.  Playing on the turf field at Station Park Sparta held Lakeland to zero through the first three quarters.
