SPARTA, NJ- The Spartan boys basketball team join the girls in the finals of the NJSIAA tournament after defeating 13 seed Teaneck on Friday 46-39.
The two teams were neck and neck through the first three periods.. Teaneck was consistent with 10s in each quarter until the final when they put up nine. Sparta was down by two in the first quarter 10-8, they mirrored Teaneck with 10s in the second and third quarter. They blew past the Highwaymen in the fourth putting up 18 for the win.
Aidan Mastandrea had 16 points including seven free throws. Mike Piwko added 11 with four 3’s and three foul shots
Dean Alkovic and Luke Szabo each dropped in seven. Colby Plotts and Rasir Scott also contributed to the win.
Top seed Sparta will host Ramapo on Monday, March 9 for the North 1, Group 3 title. The girls are also facing Ramapo on Tuesday, March 10 for the title on the road.
