SPARTA, NJ- Sparta football routed Montville on Friday night 48-13. Playing under the lights at Cassels field it was a busy Homecoming night for Sparta High School.

Through the first half it looked like Montville was going to give Sparta a tough time. It only took one play to make that change.

The Mustangs had put together a long drive that ate up most of the third quarter.  They were within striking distance of the goal line when Tyler Szabo stepped in and snagged a Montville pass.  He took it all the way down field for a 102 yard TD.

That set the tone for the rest of the game.  Montville could not get back into the game.  Sparta made three more trips to the endzone, keeping Montville from adding to their total.

Austen Frattura went 274 yards in the air with 10 completions for three touchdowns.

Frattura connected with Szabo twice for 126 yards and two touchdowns.  James Hogle grabbed three for 65 yards.

Austin Castorina went 196 yards on 24 carries and 18 points.  Frattura also connected with Castorina twice for two more touchdowns.

On defense, Sam Bushey, Nick Broccoletti, TJ Hurley and JJ Valentine had big tackles and held Montville to two scores.

Vin DeSimone was good for six of seven extra points.

Before the teams took the field the Sparta student council members escorted by family members, were recognized on the field.  This represents a change from the traditional Homecoming Court.

The students and cheerleaders for both teams were clad in pink for Breast Cancer Awareness.  During halftime the Marching Spartans abbreviated their program to celebrate their seniors.  Families joined them on the field as the band played in the back ground.

Sparta is now 7-1 with one more regular season game against Morris Hills next Friday night back at Cassels Field.
