SPARTA, NJ- The Sparta High School boys basketball team moves into action this week.  Coach Brian Brennan has three returning seniors and six new players in the starting varsity line up.

Aidan Mastandrea, Rashir Scott and Mike Piwko return after a 24-3 season last year. Mastandrea is being looked at by colleges, to continue his basketball career, according to Brennan.

  • Colby Plotts, junior forward,
  • Peyton Trent, junior forward,
  • Matt Silvey, sophomore guard,
  • Luke Szabo, sophomore forward,
  • Mike McGovern, sophomore guard.

Brennan said they are working to "be prepared to compete every night,” calling on the “speed, athleticism and leadership,” he see’s in the players for this 2019-2020 season.

The boys open the season on the road at Morristown on Friday evening.  They will be hosting a holiday tournament over the winter break and have their home opener on Friday, January 3 at 7 p.m. against Chatham.
