SPARTA, NJ – Sparta High School boys soccer defeated Pope John on Friday afternoon 2-1.  Playing on the Station Park turf field with a bit of rain, the boys were at a 0-0 stalemate until the second half.

Spartans Carlen Rivielle and Joe Collins got past the Lions’ keeper assisted by Kex Halmer.  The Pope John goal was scored by Jomar Banguero deep in the second half.

Alban Ukaj was the winning goalie with five saves.  Alex Russo was in net for Pope John with 10 saves for the outing.

The boys’ record moves to 1-1.  They will travel to Montville on Monday for a 4 p.m. game.
