SPARTA, NJ – Sparta High School girls basketball dropped a close one to Pope John 52-49, at their home opener on Friday.
The Lions were up by four at the half. Sparta was only able to close the gap by one point before the final buzzer. It was a team effort with seven Spartans putting points on the board.
Ally Sweeney had 19 points with four 2-pointers, two from 3-point territory and five free throws. She also pulled down four rebounds.
Brynn Mc Curry put up 10 points with four in the paint and two free throws. Ellen Villapando sunk two 3-pointers. Mason Munier and Bailey Chapman each added five points. Olivia Bouma-Hannam and Alexa Acker contributed two points each. Bouma-Hannam had four rebounds, Acker grabbed two.
The Spartans go again on Monday at Morris Knolls.
