SPARTA, NJ- Sparta High School girls basketball defeated Voorhees 61-40 in the Sparta Holiday Tournament championship semifinal round on Saturday.

Sparta came onto the court strong right from the start taking the lead 17-13 in the first quarter.  By the halftime buzzer the Spartans were ahead 31-18. 

In the second half Sparta’s defense held Voorhees to 22, while offense dominated adding 30 to the total.

Three Spartans were scored double digits.  Ally Sweeney scored 19, with three from inside the paint and three from 3-point range.  She also had four rebounds. 

Brynn McCurry put up 17 for Sparta; five 2-pointers and seven from the foul line.  She pulled down 10 rebounds had three assists, three blocks and five steals.

Bailey Chapmam dropped in five 3-pointers. 

The girls beat Brearley 59-22 in the first round of the Holiday Tournament on Friday.  Chapman scored 15 points.  Sweeney, McCurry and Mason Munier each added 10 to the total.  Olivia Bouma-Hannam had eight points.

They will face Warren Hills in the championship round on Monday beginning at 1 p.m.
