SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta High School girls cross country team is expecting a good showing this season with four returning runners and three newcomers to varsity.  Coach Sarah Pisano is looking forward to her seventh season as head coach.

“We have strong depth this year,” Pisano said.

Veterans Madison O’Hare, Marina O’Hare, Nuala Hynes and Genesis Sanchez will be joined by Kayleigh Simpson, Michele Scaglione and Corinne Groome.   The roster will be rounded out with Kaela Burke, Shannon Hollywood, Laura Johnson, Dinny Liang,  Jamie Rubin, Sophie Regeimbal, Erin Takach, Audrey Talon, Ellen Villapando, Mia Von Eisenberg and Sarah Yarnall.

“This year we have a very strong group of returner,” Pisano said.  “We hope this year to be competitive in both the NJAC National Division but also in the state tournament.”

A division win would be the first time in 30 years for the Sparta High School girls cross country program.   Their competition season begins on Saturday, September 7 with the Varsity Invitational at Roxbury Rec Center Horseshoe Lake.
