SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta High School girls tennis team will be looking to six returning players for a strong season this fall.  It is the third year as head coach for Andrew Lowery who previously served 12 years as JV coach for the boys and 20 years as boys soccer coach.

Lowery said they have moved into a more competitive conference, “so it will be a battle every day” but they are “excited to play the stronger teams.”

Junior Alexa Matkiwsky will take the court as first singles with senior Jenna Bargfrede in the second singles slot and senior Regan Rech playing third singles.

For doubles, junior Gabby Canzoniero and senior Jordan Bucenec will teaming up for first doubles.  Junior Sarah Bargfrede will be on for second doubles. 

Lowery said Matkiwsky is being looked at to continue her tennis career in college.

“Unforatunately, the season will not have the tournaments we look forward to and the season will be shortened, but we are grateful to have the chance to play,” Lowery said.  ‘
