SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta High School Volleyball team is moving through the playoffs with the easy defeat of Fort Lee 2-0 on Thursday.  Playing in the Spartan gymnasium before a loud crowd, the girls took their opponents 25-11, 25-11 in the second round of the NJSIAA Group 2 tournament.

“Everybody is everywhere,” Liv Bouma-Hannam said, noting improvements since the beginning of the season. “We cover so much ground.  We are hard to stop once we put the ball down.”

Brooke Serovich had four aces and 26 assists.  MacKenzie Wiggins put away three aces with 16 kills and 11 digs.

Autumn Nady, Alexis Smernoff and Liv Bouma-Hannam each had an ace.  Bouma-Hannam smacked seven kills. 

Martina Foy was credited with five kills and two digs.

“The girls are clicking at the right time,” Coach Derek Hall said. “They are playing well together; playing like they don’t want the season to end.”

“I think we have a very good shot if we stick together and play like we know we can,” Bouma-Hannam said.

The Spartans number four seed move to the quarterfinals on Saturday, November 9, hosting 28-seed Governor Livingston High School with a 10 a.m. start.
