SPARTA, NJ- Sparta wrestler Garrett Stewart broke the Sparta High School record for overall wins on Friday.  Garrett Stewart, one of three Stewart brothers on the team, earned win number 127 on Senior night in front of a supportive student section.


“I am so happy for Garrett. It’s well deserved and quite an accomplishment," Head Coach Frank Battaglia said. "Garrett is a unique individual. He shares his success with all his teammates and genuinely wants the best for the program as a whole. With such an individual accomplishment, Garrett is always sure to thank his teammates and coaches for his success. I’m fortunate to call myself his coach.

On Saturday Sparta took down Waldwick 60-21 and Pascack Valley.

Waldwick wins:

  • 106 lbs- Jack Nauta with a pin in 2:27
  • 113 lbs - Blake Brodersen by forfeit
  • 120 lbs - Cooper Stewart by forfeit
  • 132 lbs - Spencer Stewart by forfeit
  • 138 lbs - Garrett Stewart by forfeit
  • 145 lbs - Nick Hwang with a pin in 0:32
  • 152 lbs - Troy Schmitzer with a pin in 1:48
  • 160 lbs - Robert L'Abbate with a pin in 2:49
  • 182 lbs - AJ Frantzeskakis with a pin in 0:58
  • 195 lbs - Jack Pryce by forfeit

The team fell was edged out by Kittatinny 37-30.  Spartan wins:

  • 113 lbs – Jack Nauta in a 5-3 decision
  • 120 lbs Cooper Stweart with a pin in 0:16
  • 132 lbs – Spencer Stewart with a pin 3:46
  • 145 lbs – Garrett Stewart with a pin in 1:19
  • 152 lbs – Nick Hwang in a 12-8 decision

Sparta is 9-7 for the season.
