SPARTA, NJ – A young boys cross country team will represent Sparta High School this year.  Robert Gilmartin continues his role as Head Coach for a second year, after having coached the Sparta Middle School team for three years.

“We have only one returning upperclass varsity runner,” Gilmartin said.  “We are looking to our young runners to continue to develop and improve on strong freshmen seasons.”

Chris Pierson, Adam Wood and Andy Stefancik will be joined on the varsity squad by James Bates and Paul Shumlas.  They are looking to build on last year’s 14 place finish at North 1 Group 3 Sectionals.

Their first meet will be in Roxbury at the Rec Center for the Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, September 7.
