A One Night Jazz Festival To Benefit St. Joseph's Social Service Center

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – Fans of Jazz and music enthusiasts everywhere will enjoy “A One Night Jazz Festival,” featuring eight jazz artists, many with worldwide jazz reputations, Saturday, April 29, at Union Catholic High School in Scotch Plains.

The event supports the work of St. Joseph’s Social Service Center, a non-profit organization that serves the materially poor and the homeless in the Elizabeth area.

Vocalist Marlene VerPlanck , fresh off her annual tour in the United Kingdom, will be one of the featured singers. Ben Cassara, who has performed at NYC’s Kitano, Metropolitan Room and the St. Peter’s Jazz Church, and Jan Findlay, with decades of jazz experience in New York and New Jersey, will be adding their vocal stylings to some of the songs initially recorded by people so popular that they can be identified by their first names: Ella, Billie, Frank, Mel, Peggy, Nat, Julie, and Tony. The musical director is Tomoko Ohno, one of the country’s most sought-after and highly regarded jazz musicians.
