SHORT HILLS, NJ - The parking lot is empty and the store is locked. A notice appeared in the front window this week, “Please be advised that Benjamin A. Stanziale Jr., Esq. has been appointed Trustee of Bill’s of Millburn, Inc. d/b/a Bill’s Army & Navy Store.  It further states “These premises and Contents therein are subject to the Jurisdiction of the United States Federal Bankruptcy Court”.  A call to the store management went unanswered.

Bill’s Army and Navy opened in 1971 and operated for the last 45 years.  It was the go to place for all things outdoors including tents, kayaks and outerwear. Youth going off to camp often shopped there for their gear.  Boy Scout and Girl Scout badges, uniforms and other related items could be purchased at the store.

A recent trip for kayaking supplies found the store well stocked and the clerks very helpful and knowledgeable. As Christina Amundson of Summit lamented, “The community has lost an asset and a homegrown business where you could buy anything you could possibly need for an outdoor adventure. It will be missed.”
