SPRINGFIELD, NJ - As the New Year approaches next week, the Dayton boys basketball team is looking for a jumpstart.

Junior point guard Ross Gang scored a game-high 21 points and senior center and tournament most valuable player Zach Ravitz added 15 to lead Millburn to a 54-36 victory over neighbor Dayton in the final of the 13th annual Joe Pepe Tournament in Springfield.

Senior forward Will Rosenberg added eight points for Millburn (5-0), which led 14-6 after the first quarter and 26-14 at halftime. Gang netted 43 points in the two-game tournament.

Senior Joe Kastner scored 11 points with three 3-pointers and junior Antonio Salcfas added 11 points with two 3-pointers for Dayton (1-2), which dropped its second straight Joe Pepe final.

Last season, Dayton upended CSI/McCown (NY), 64-56, in the first round, but fell to Somerville, 58-27, in the championship.

In the third-place game, CSI/McCown (NY) defeated Moore Catholic (NY).

Dayton upended CSI/McCown (NY), 71-67, in the first round Tuesday behind Nick Ulizio’s game-high 24 points.



Millburn defeated Moore Catholic (NY), 64-46, in the other first round matchup Tuesday as Gang again led the way with a team-high 22 points and Ravitz added 21 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks in the win.

The Bulldogs open 2017 next week with three games on the slate.

A visit to neighbor Summit takes place on Tuesday, Jan. 3 with a 7 p.m. first tip-off, then return home Thursday for a 7 p.m. start versus Hillside. The week ends with a Saturday 1 p.m. visit to Bernardsville to take on Bernards.
