CLARK, NJ - Mother Seton Regional High School, held commencement exercises on June 1, 2017.  Diplomas were presented by Principal, Sister Jacquelyn Balasia and Principal, Joan Barron.  The class of 2017 achieved in excess of 21 million dollars in academic scholarships and awards.  Sister Mary Anne Katlack, campus minister, delivered the invocation and the closing benediction.

This year’s ceremony brought with it a rare instance of two students excelling in their studies to the point of tying for the honor of Valedictorian.   Barbara Fiedorowicz and Ashley Ann Thomas shared the duties and were recognized with the Principal’s award for academic excellence.  The Saint Elizabeth Anne Seton Award for exemplary witness to Christian values during the past four years was also awarded to Fiedorowicz.

Each valedictorian had the opportunity to address their classmates.   “I think the quote on our class banner by Eleanor Roosevelt really encompasses the beginning of the journey ahead. ‘The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.’  Our time in these halls of truth and knowledge has prepared us to chase these dreams through everything that we’ve accomplished.  The future has now become the present, and we are very well on our way to achieve those dreams,” said Fiedorowicz.   She will be attending Villanova University in the fall majoring in mathematics.

Co-valedictorian Ashley Ann Thomas reflected on the accomplishments of the class.   “I just want to start by thanking all of you for the sacrifices you’ve made.  Without your efforts, there wouldn’t be a ceremony today.  In addition, I would like to congratulate the class of 2017 on a job well done.   Remember to carry all the knowledge and friends you’ve gained from this school into college.  I know I will next year at Massachusetts Institute of Technology majoring in chemical and biological engineering,” said Thomas.

Principal Joan Barron shared congratulatory remarks with the student body during the graduation ceremony.   “Today, Graduates, you leave these halls of truth and knowledge and head for new beginnings at colleges and universities throughout our country.  In time, you will discover the true value of a Mother Seton education.  It will be measured by the life you lead.   It is important to understand that life is, in fact, a journey, not a destination.  I challenge each of you to never stop learning, never stop improving, never stop inspiring others and never stop growing in your faith,” said Barron.

Diana Solano, senior class president, helped symbolize the movement forward by inviting the members of the class of 2017 to join her in turning their tassels as a symbol of their graduation from Mother Seton Regional High School.  Solano will be attending The College of New Jersey majoring in communications.
