Collegiate Championships: N.J.'s Mandarino Helps Georgia Earn Top Seed

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. — Emma Mandarino of Bedminster, N.J. helped Georgia equestrian win the SEC Conference championship and notch the top seed going into the national finals.

Georgia defeated the Gamecocks of South Carolina, 16-4, in the semifinal round of the 2018 SEC Championship on March 30 at One Wood Farm.  With the win, the Bulldogs (10-1, 6-1 SEC) advanced to the championship round for the fifth-straight year. 

In Equitation Over Fences Mandarino, a junior, scored a 162 to top her opponent’s 149.

On March 31, Georgia equestrian became back-to-back Southeastern Conference Champions after defeating the Auburn Tigers, 12-7. Mandarino defeated her opponent, 162-150 to earn one of Georgia’s six points in the in Equitation Over Fences.

"This is an incredible feeling," head coach Meghan Boenig said. "This is such a deserving and hard-working team. We saw such dominance right from the start and I'm so proud of the atmosphere we brought here today. The senior class has led this team with enthusiasm and it had a tremendous impact on building confidence and trust within each other to get us to be back-to-back SEC Champions."

Seeding and matchups for NCEA Championships Announced

WACO, TEXAS — Seedings and matchups for the 2018 National Collegiate Equestrian Association Championship, as determined by the NCEA Selection Committee, were announced on April 3.

The nation’s top 8 teams will vie for the NCEA National Championship, set to take place April 18-21, 2018 at the Extraco Events Center in Waco, Texas.

Additionally, the newly expanded NCEA National Championship format will include a team seeded bracket not to exceed 16 teams in an NCEA format competition for the four event titles. Event rankings are determined by statistics (Win/Loss; Home/Away; Current Rank of Opponent) of regular season head-to-head competition.

Texas A&M is the defending NCEA Team National Champion. Since the first NCEA Team National Championship in 2002, Georgia has won the most titles with six, followed by Auburn (four), South Carolina (three), and Texas A&M (three).Georgia Defeats South Carolina, Advances to SEC Championship
