PLAINFIELD, NJ - The three-person panel selected by Democratic City Committee Chairman Adrian O. Mapp to pick a Plainfield nominee for an open freeholder seat submitted its recommendation over the holiday weekend.

Linda Carter had previously held the freeholder position until she took on the role as Assemblywoman earlier this month.

Nancy Jordan, chair of the committee, along with Bobby Gregory and Ricky Hunt, who is the husband of Mapp's chief of staff, unanimously recommended Councilwoman Rebecca Williams as the nominee.

Williams told TAPinto Plainfield, “I am truly humbled by the support I have received from the people of Plainfield, as well as elected officials throughout Union County, as I prepare for the county-wide Democratic Convention, scheduled for this Thursday, May 31, 2018, at which an appointment will be voted on to fill the Freeholder seat recently vacated by (now) Assemblywoman Linda Carter, representative of the 22nd Legislative District."

Williams added, "It has always been my desire to serve the needs of Plainfield residents, which is why I became a public servant back in 2010, when I was first elected to the Plainfield City Council. I have always supported moving our city forward, and I am confident that I can represent Plainfield at the county level as the new freeholder.

"If I am elected at the convention to fill the vacancy, I pledge to deliver the same high level of constituent service to all the residents of Union County that I have always provided to Plainfielders. It is my intention to keep the 'home fires' of Plainfield burning brightly through a close partnership with the Mapp administration and the city council while also ensuring that the needs of every resident in the county are fulfilled to the best of my ability.”
