NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - Last Friday’s season-opening win celebration for the Dayton boys basketball team over Brearley was short-lived.

Senior guard Antonio Salcfas scored a game-high 24 points to pace Dayton in a 69-51 loss to rival New Providence Tuesday night in New Providence.

Salcfas has posted 53 points in two games for Dayton (1-1), which has lost three straight games to its Union County foe since a 54-53 thriller on February 10th, 2016.

Junior Dylan Bedder posted a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds and fellow junior Brian Kelly scored a team-high 19 points, hitting two 3-pointers, to lead New Providence (1-1), which was coming off a to a 68-58 season-opening loss at Johnson last Friday.

Sophomore Sean Dillon (three 3-pointers) and junior Richie Wawzycki each added 11 points apiece for the Pioneers, which hit eight 3-pointers on the night.

Dayton ends a two-game road trip on Thursday at Roselle Park with first tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs return home to face CSI/McCown of Staten Island, New York on Wednesday, Dec. 27th at 5:30 p.m in the annual Joe Pepe Tournament. The winner will face the winner between Millburn and Moore Catholic (NY) (also on Staten Island), on Friday, Dec. 29 at 5:30 p.m., with the consolation game at 2:30 p.m. is Springfield’s free daily news source.
