Dayton Softball Ends Regular Season with 9-7 Win over Benedictine Academy

ELIZABETH, NJ – Even though the state tournament season started Thursday for the Bulldogs, they had one more regular season game to play Friday against Benedictine Academy.  They traveled to Elizabeth and came away with a 9-7 win over Benedictine.  The win pushed the Bulldogs record for the season to 12.9.

Dayton jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning and added a run.  Benedictine scored three runs in the fourth while Dayton scored one.  Benedictine scored two runs in the fifth and sixth inning, but any lead was erased as Dayton scored seven runs in the sixth inning.

At the plate, Marinna Kwinta led the Bulldogs with three hits.  Angelina Cacioppo, Victoria Delia, Karly Fitzpatrick and Holly Wilson each had two hits.  Maggie Phillips had one hit.

Marinna Kwinta scored two runs.  While Angelina Cacioppo, Victoria Delia, Arianna DeMartino, Karly Fitzpatrick, Amanda Lau, Maggie Phillips and Holly Wilson all scored a run. 

Arianna DeMartino pitched five and two thirds innings and allowed four hits and one earned run while three were scored.  Holly Wilson pitched the remaining one and one third inning.

Benedictine’s Jocelyn Vega pitched all seven innings and gave up five hits and allowed five earned runs.

Today, Dayton plays a quarterfinal game in the NJSIAA Section 2, Group 1 Tournament against third seed Hoboken at Hoboken. The winner plays Thursday against the seven seed Brearley and the 15 seed North Arlington winner.
