SPRINGFIELD, NJ – The Jonathan Dayton boys tennis team is seeded number two in the NJSIAA Section 2, Group 1 Tournament. They faced seven seeded Leonia High School Tuesday in the quarterfinals and came away with a convincing 5-0 win.
Court one provided the closest contest with Leonia’s Michael Kang winning a tiebreaker in the first set 7-1. Dayton’s Colin McCormack stormed back in the second set and won 6-1 and 10-4 in the deciding part.
Josh Damast continued his strong performance on court two with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Leonia’s Veer Sawhney.
Dayton’s Jared Horowitz also won in two sets 6-1, 6-3. He beat Leonia’s Sebastian Vlahovic.
Sean Martin and Ryan Salmon are doubles court one for Dayton and they won their match 6-3, 6-0.
Dayton’s second doubles team also won in two sets. Adam Gelo and Matt Mlawski won their match 6-3, 6-2.
Dayton is 10-6 this season.
On Thursday, Dayton plays Glen Ridge at Jonathan Dayton High School in the semifinal match. The winner plays in the finals of the NJSIAA Section 2, Group 1 Tournament Monday at New Providence.
