SPRINGFIELD, NJ – Jonathan Dayton boys tennis played up to their two seeding and beat 15 seed Whippany Park in Round One of the NJSIAA Section 2, Group 1 Tournament 4-1. 

Dayton won court two and three singles, and both doubles matches.  Whippany Park prevailed on court one.

Josh Damast, Dayton’s court two, continued his strong performance this season and beat Whippany Park’s Jonathan Lin 6-0, 6-0.  He is 11-2 on the season.  Jared Horowitz on court three beat Whippany Park’s David Su 6-1, 6-1.

Damast and Horowitz are among the top 20 seniors at Dayton and were honored at a Lions Club dinner Thursday.

On the doubles side, Sean Martin and Ryan Salmon beat Whippany Park’s team 6-0, 6.1.  Dayton’s Adam Gelo and Brandon Wohl won by forfeit.

Whippany Park’s court one player Matthew Wu bested Dayton’s Colin McCormick 6-2, 6-1.

The next match for Dayton is the round two match and it will be played Tuesday against seven seed Leonia at Dayton.  Dayton is 9-6 for the season.
