SPRINGFIELD, NJ – Dayton tennis lost one of its closest matches in recent memory to the Crusaders of A.L. Johnson, 3-2.

Dayton won court one and two singles but lost on court three and both doubles courts. Each doubles match went to a third set.

Dayton senior Ron Brody continued his stellar play on court one and beat Johnson’s Matthew Vigliotti 6-0, 6-0.

Senior Colin McCormack continued his winning streak on court two by beating Johnson’s Logan Guarino 6-1, 6-3.0

Junior Julien Heurteux lost a 7-5 tiebreaker to Johnson’s George Visconti in the first set and Visconti carried the momentum into the second set to win 6-0.

Playing on the first doubles court for Dayton were sophomore Brandon Wohl and sophomore Matt Mlawski.  They lost the first set 6-4 and won the second set against Johnson’s team of Joseph DiProfio and Tyler Kaulfers 7-5.  Johnson held on to win the third set 6-3.

Dayton’s second doubles team of junior Ryan Salman and sophomore Russell Cook faced Johnson’s Chris Cundari and Alex Rodrigues.  Dayton won the first set 6-3, lost the second set 3-6, and was edged in the third set 5-7.

Dayton is 3-3 for the season and they play Westfield at 4:00 p.m. today on their home court.

Johnson is 3-2 for the season.
