Dayton Tennis Loses to Glen Ridge in Semifinals of NJSIAA North 2, Group 1 Tournament

SPRINGFIELD, NJ – Dayton played Glen Ridge in the semifinal round of the NJSIAA North 2, Group 1 Tournament Thursday and lost 5-0.  For Dayton it was a tough loss in an otherwise really good season. 

After a losing season in 2016, Dayton bounced back under first year Coach Caitlyn Salmon and posted a 10-7 record and made it all the way to the semifinals of hte sectional tournament.  Like most teams in the area, the inclement weather at the beginning of the season caused many postponements and reduced practice time. 

Dayton’s court two and court three players, Josh Damast and Jared Horowitz, are seniors.  The rest of today’s starters will return next season.

The last match for the Bulldogs is a regular season match at Cranford High School Friday.

On the courts Thursday, Colin McCormick lost 0-6, 0-6 on court one, while Josh Damast lost 2-6, 3-6 on court two and Jared Horowitz lost 2-6, 3-6 on court three.  The first doubles team of Ryan Salmon and Sean Martin lost a first set tie breaker 5-7 and they lost the second set 2-6.  The second doubles team of Matthew Mlawski and Adam Gelo lost 3-6, 4-6.
