SPRINGFIELD, NJ – The NJSIAA Group 1 Relay Championships were held Saturday in Toms River.  The boys and girls track team battled some illnesses and injuries.  As a result the coaches had to shift the line-ups around.  Still, Coach VanDeuerson said, “Coach Salmon and I were very pleased with everyone's performances.  Many kids had a lot of personal bests, and the kids put forth a great effort.”

He highlighted the boys Distance Medley Relay of junior Fabian Mestanza, seniors Justin Ehly and Kyle DeJohn, and sophomore Adam Cohen.  They finished 13th with a time of 12:01:46.  He noted that it was the highest finish for one Dayton’s relay teams in that event in a long time and the fastest time during the indoor season for the boys in many years.

Finishing up the relay was Cohen who “…finished with the mile in 5:06, which is great for a sophomore at this point in the season.”, according to the coach.

The girls' best relay was the Shuttle Hurdle Relay of sophomores Isabella McKenna and Destini Stewart, and juniors Jessica Micolta and Justine Ventisette.  They also finished 13th.
